Carl DeLarm, 78, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at his home in Oxford Junction, Iowa.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Monday, January 14, 2013 from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois, with military honors.
Carl DeLarm was born on March 6, 1934 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Willis and Ruby (Taylor) DeLarm. He grew up in the Delmar area and received his 8th grade diploma from Clinton County schools. He then entered the military serving in the U.S. Army from 1954 until being honorably discharged in 1958. He married Marie Green in Welton, Iowa and to that union 6 children were born. He later married Janet Wiese on April 17, 1970 in Frostproof, Florida and to that union 5 children were born.
Carl had farmed for many years in Jackson County and worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for a few years. He had also lived in Florida where he had owned and refurbished 12 houses on the same street and eventually had the street named after him called "DeLarm Street".
Carl was a member of the American Legion Wapsi Post #473 of Oxford Junction. He enjoyed gardening and each year would have a vegetable, fruit or other item he would grow. He loved tinkering and working with his hands. He was known as a "jack-of-all-trades" who could fix most anything.
Those left to honor Carl's memory include his wife, Janet DeLarm of Oxford Junction, IA; children, Fawn Gage of MN, Karla Stevens of ID, Dawn Nissila of MN, Edward DeLarm of FL, Crystal Clymer of SC, David DeLarm of FL, Loyal DeLarm of IA, Richard DeLarm of IA, Teresa Clary of IA, Nelson DeLarm of IA, and Mark DeLarm of IA; sisters, Margaret Lovely of TX and Judy Ray of Dubuque, IA; brothers, Donald DeLarm of Maquoketa, IA, Raymond DeLarm of Cedar Rapids, IA, Richard (Delores) DeLarm of Onslow, IA, Charles (Brenda) DeLarm of Oxford Junction, IA, and David (Phyllis) DeLarm of Delmar, IA; 27 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Carl DeLarm memorial fund has been established.
