Marlene J. Yarolem, 86, of Baldwin, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, June 14, 2022, at Southeast Regional Health Center Home Health and Hospice in West Burlington, Iowa.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 P.M., Monday, June 20, 2022, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10:30 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Canton, Iowa Cemetery.
Marlene Joy Ringen was born on May 1, 1936 in Bellevue, Iowa, to Milton and Alma (Mangler) Ringen. She was a 1954 graduate of Bellevue High School. She married Rex Yarolem on April 17, 1955 in Bellevue, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2001.
Marlene had several jobs throughout the years including Clinton Engines, Hoffman Eggs and as a bus driver for "Head Start" in Cascade, Iowa in her earlier years. Most notably she was the Director of the Jackson County Humane Society in Maquoketa from 1978 to 1988. She and Rex then moved to Missouri and operated Farmer's Tavern and Campground from 1988 to 1997.
Marlene was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club in Maquoketa, and the Baldwin/Monmouth Women's Club. She enjoyed "running the roads" as well as racing coonhounds in water races with her husband Rex.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Steve Yarolem of Baldwin, IA, Rexann Roach of Ft. Madison, IA, Mike (Connie) Yarolem of Maquoketa, IA, Jody Yarolem of Oxford Junction, IA, and Tim Yarolem of Wyoming, IA; 23 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rex, a son Paul, son-in-law William, daughter-in-law Thelma, brother Harlan, and a sister Marilyn Earles.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Marlene J. Yarolem memorial fund has been established.
