Obituary

Kenneth G. "Barber" Grau, 75, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, November 6, 2021, at home.

A public graveside service and burial celebrating his life will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Buena Vista Cemetery, rural Calamus, Iowa. A celebration of life luncheon will follow beginning at 12 P.M. Noon at Buzzy's in Welton, Iowa. Cremation has taken place. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

Kenneth Gene Grau was born on May 4, 1946 in Clinton, Iowa, to Ralph William and Leona Marie (Fick) Grau. He was a 1964 graduate of Calamus High School and a 1966 graduate of Barber's College in Davenport, Iowa. He had served in the Army Reserves from 1966 to 1972. He married Bonnie May DeMoss on December 12, 1966 in Montpelier, Idaho.

Kenneth had worked at Leo's Barber Shop in DeWitt in 1966. He then owned and operated Ken's Hairport in Wheatland until 2007 and in Calamus until retiring in 2012. He had lived in Wheatland from 1967 to 1980, then Calamus until 1990 and lastly Maquoketa until his passing. Since 2012, he and Bonnie had wintered in Arizona.

Kenneth had been a member of the Grand Mound Lutheran Church, Wheatland United Church of Christ and currently the East Iron Hill Community Church of rural Maquoketa. For several years he enjoyed volunteering and serving Christmas dinners at the Eagles Club in Maquoketa.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Bonnie Grau of Maquoketa, IA; children, Sherrie (Scott) Flynn of Big Rock, IA, Kane (Laura) Grau of Maquoketa, IA, Pat (Heather) Grau of Calamus, IA, and Nathan (Amanda) Grau of Jesup, IA; 13 grandchildren; and brothers, Floyd (JoAnn) Grau of Gilbert, AZ, and Roger (Lucy) Grau of DeWitt, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Kelly Meyer, a sister Janet Swearingen, and brothers Les Grau and Bradley Grau.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Kenneth G. Grau memorial fund has been established.
