Kenneth L. "Ken" Litterer, 94, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday morning, November 15, 2020, at Unity Point Finley Hospital in Dubuque from complications of CoVid 19 Pneumonia.

A private family graveside service and burial celebrating Ken's life will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Lost Nation, Iowa Cemetery. There is no public visitation. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

Kenneth LaVerne Litterer was born on November 10, 1926 in Clarksville, Iowa, to William F. and Marie (Scheidecker) Litterer. He received his education in rural Floyd County and graduated in 1943 from Greene High School in Greene, Iowa. He served a short time in the U.S. Navy receiving an honorable discharge. He married Muriel Lee Jacobs in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1989. He later married Darlene Bauer. Together, they were a great team, working the farm and hosting family get togethers. For a number of years the two enjoyed trips in their recreational vehicle, many times with grandchildren.

Ken first worked with his father in W.F. & Son Trucking from 1946 to 1961. In 1961, he and his wife Muriel owned and operated a hunting and fishing camp, Ken's Red Lake Lodge, in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada until 1974 when he moved to Maquoketa and was involved in B & Z Feeds until 1981. From 1981 until 1993 he owned and operated Ken's Feed Store in Maquoketa.

Ken was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa and the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75. He was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman who loved to share this joy of the outdoors.

Those left to honor his wife Darlene Litterer of Maquoketa, IA; children, Mike Litterer of Ft. Madison, IA, Jennie DuPont of Balmerton, Ontario, Canada, Theiann (Art) Scherby of Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, Canada, and Jay (Jill) Litterer of Bettendorf, IA; step-children, Kathy (Don) Bales, Sheryl (Dennis) O'Brien, Rob (Kathy) Bauer, Julie (Bob) Bruns, Wendy (Craig) Winegar, Carolyn (Danny) Clark, Arlen (Vonda) Bauer, Luann Ehrler, and Colleen (Roland) Zschiegner; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren, and 29 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Muriel, a daughter Teri Robinson, a brother Elmer, sisters Alice Stauffer, Edna Franke and Gladys Stauffer, and a step-grandson.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
