Charles W. Schneckloth, 87, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 A.M., Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday, December 10, 2018, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. A private burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa.

Charles William Schneckloth was born on July 9, 1931 in Scott County, Iowa, to Rudy and Betty (Schaff) Schneckloth. He married Lola Hodson on October 8, 1950 in DeWitt, Iowa. He worked six years in Wyoming and Colorado as a ranch cowboy and then moved back to Iowa and farmed in the Preston and Maquoketa areas until retiring in 2016 and moving to Maquoketa.

He was active in many organizations but wanted to be remembered as a cowboy, rancher, farmer, good husband, father, neighbor and friend. In keeping with his giving spirit of helping others throughout his life, Charles gave the gift of organ/tissue donation at his passing.

He is survived by his wife Lola Schneckloth of Maquoketa, IA; daughters, Jan (Mike) Holdaway of New Zealand, Dawn (Keith) Brix of Laramie, WY, and Jodi (Luke) Johnson of Dixon, IL; 7 grandchildren, Jessica and Brad of New Zealand, Becky and Meghan of WY, Kate, Jake and Emma of IL; 2 great-grandsons, Charlie and Asher of New Zealand; a niece Sharon McClimon of AZ; and sisters-in-law, Jean Schneckloth, Jackie Schneckloth, and Lila Stewart of Scott County, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Allen and LeRoy, a sister LaVonne "Sis" McClimon, a niece Mary Ann McClimon, and nephews Michael and Mark McClimon.

Well let me tell you I never met a really cowboy before in my life and meeting Charlie while he was in New Zealand confirmed what everybody had told me about him. He was the most loveable character, his non agressive nature and slower pace let alone sense of humour and constant grin made me fall in love with him right away. I did get to Charlie and Lola's place one time only (unfortunately) and they were very gracious and made me feel very welcome. He has been a big influence to a lot of people. Thanks Charlie love Jim

I have many many wonderful memories of this kind and gently man. The one I would like to share is of the time we were both at Mike and Jan's farm in New Zealand for the occasion of grandson Bradly's wedding. There were so many of us that we decided to divide up into works teams to take turns in doing the cooking and cleaning each day and I was lucky enough to be on Charlie's team. Although, thanks to Lola's care and that of her three very well trained daughters, Charlie had almost no experience in such things, he did his best to help and kept us well entertained and supported. HIs passing will leave a huge hole in the Holdaway family. Anna Holdaway

Dear Lola and Family -- Words can't express how sorry I am to just now read of Charlie's passing. I so wish I could have had one more visit with him. He was such a good role model for many young people; and always had time for them. There are so many memories I have of him when I was young; horses and cattle being most of those memories! Please accept my deepest sympathies. I will see all of you Monday and Tuesday. God bless and comfort you all. Sally and Duane Marvin

    Lola and Family,
You all are in my thoughts and prayers and am saddened that i did not have a chance to have one more visit with him.
We served on the school board together and will never forget how much thought he put into some difficult decisions we had to make at times. He was always thinking of the impact we had on our children and how we can do more.
The subject of cattle always came up and he was an excellent cattleman. He worked hard at promoting beef and was a mentor to many in the business of raising cattle.
So many of us are fortunate that we met Charlie along the path of life. May he rest in peace.
