Obituary
Keith A. Weuste, 67, of Bellevue, Iowa, completed his "Golden Stairs" on Monday morning, April 4, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, surrounded by his family.
A celebration of Keith's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 9, 2016 from the Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Friday, April 8, 2016 from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Andrew, Iowa Cemetery, with military honors.
Keith Allen Weuste was born on August 7, 1948 in Bellevue, Iowa, to Edwin C. and Henrietta M. (Rommert) Weuste. He grew up in the Andrew area and while in high school worked for John's Gas Station until he graduated from the Andrew High School in 1966. He then worked for a short time for Nitrin in Cordova, Illinois as lab tech prior to his marriage to the love of his life, Sherry Lynn Gould. They were married on December 10, 1967 in Andrew, Iowa. Shortly thereafter he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1967 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1975. Throughout his time in the military, Keith received training in Advanced Aviation Electronics and as a CAT Scan repair technician. Military travels took he and Sherry to many places including Chicago, California, Florida, Washington, Tennessee and Ohio. Upon returning home, Keith continued his education and received an Associates degree from Clinton Community College.
Keith worked for Stickley Electric in Maquoketa in 1975 and then started an 11 year career with John Deere as an electrician from 1976 to 1987. In 1987, he began a career working for the Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, first as an electrician at Lock and Dam #13 and Lock and Dam #11. He retired in 2010 as the Assistant Lock Master with Lock and Dam #11 in Dubuque, Iowa. In retirement, Keith continued as vintner and co-owner of Brush Creek Winery, a business he started with his wife Sherry in 2007.
Keith was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew where he active in many capacities including the church choir, Sunday school superintendent, and church council serving as a past president. He was a longtime Andrew Fire Department trustee and a member of the Andrew AMVETS Post #62 and the Bellevue American Legion Post #273.
In addition to his love and devotion to his family, faith and country, Keith had a passion for motorcycle riding, carpentry, spending time in the outdoors, antique car, truck and tractor restoration, and farming.
Those left to honor Keith's memory include his wife, Sherry Weuste of Bellevue, IA; children Chad (Aubrey) Weuste of LeClaire, IA, and Krista Cobb of Andrew, IA; 4 grandchildren, Adam, Josh, Ben and Sarah; 1 great-grandchild, Kairi; and a brother, Ken (Chris) Weuste of Maquoketa, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Richard and Ralph.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
