I met Julie when I moved to Iowa City a long time ago. She was my mentor for healthy eating and healthy living. I will miss seeing her at HyVee & New Pie Co-op. Julie always had a smile & a kind word to help me through the tough times. She will be greatly missed.
Roger,Jena and Julie's family.... Thinking of you.
Roger and Jena- So very sorry for your loss. Julie was such a great friend to me for many years, since our Jr. High days. We kept in contact and I truly treasured her. She will always hold a very special place in my heart. Keeping you all close in my prayers.
I would like to give Roger and Jenna my condonolence. Being a cousin (Rae Eggers step-daughter), we would go visit them in Maquakota when they lived by Hardees. We would have lunch, visit and have a good time. Play ball in the parking lot. She and Roger help my mother when my step dad Rae was in Iowa City. Mom truely appreciated. Love Angela
We first met Julie when we added our corgi puppy Annie to our family. Julie, Roger and Bud then Rocky were great pals of ours. It was always such a delight to meet Julie and Rocky on walkies while we were walking Annie as the corgis were happy to see each other and we were always happy to see Julie! She always had a smile on her face and was a most generous soul. We will miss seeing her on walks. Please accept our deepest sympathies on your loss. She can never be replaced!
To Julie's family,
We are deeply saddened to learn of your beloved Julie's passing. Our thoughts and hearts are with you. We learned to know Julie as a friend and neighbor when you lived on California Ave. She always greeted us on her daily walks with a smile and wave or stopped for a chat. We enjoyed with her the 'furry ones', first Bud-then Rocky, excitement for the recumbant bike, planting a tree at Jenna's in Colorado, or exclaiming over the mileage she had rode or walked for that week.It was a blistery winter morning and Lyle was recuperating from major spinal surgery. We heard scraping noises outside and looked out to see Julie shoveling our sidewalk! We were blown away with appreciation for her generousity and thoughtfulness. She was really special and we too shall miss her. In sympathy, Lily Lee and Lyle V. Miller
Roger, Jena and family, So very, very sorry to hear about Julie's passing. I have so many wonderful memories of her throughout the years since we met when our girls were in school. My deepest sympathies to you all as we mourn the loss of a woman with a bright smile. You'll all be in my thoughts and prayers.
I am very sorry to hear of Julie's passing. She was a good woman who loved her family. I am happy to have met her and she will be missed.
I couldn't believe what I saw when I opened my newspaper. I have walked with Julie down sycamore green trail the last few years but haven't seen her lately and have missed walking with her. I met you, Roger, once when you were walking with Julie. It just won't be the same without seeing her.She always had a positive attitude and always found something good in each day.
Peace and Grace to you and your family
Julie was a dear, kind hearted woman that always made me feel loved and welcomed in her home. I enjoyed playing with her daughter, Jenna, when we were children, and I remember how Julie always used to make the best chocolate chip cookies for us!
She tutored me in math for a while, and was an excellent teacher that always made learning fun! She always had a warmth and energy about her that was uplifting to be around.
My heart goes out to you Roger and Jenna...She will be missed dearly, but always live on in our hearts. My prayers are with you both during this time. Blessings to you all.
Julie Hankemeier - a very special and wonderful woman. A true friend who inspired and energized me many times. I truly feel a void in my heart without her here to report humming bird sitings and tell me about her biking and motorcycle trips and walks. Julie - you will be missed. A lot.
