Elsie M. Babcock, 90, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Saturday morning, December 9, 2017, at Clover Ridge Place in Maquoketa, Iowa.
A celebration of Elsie's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 14, 2017, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Monmouth, Iowa.
Elsie Mae Keister was born on May 10, 1927 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Art and Louise (Brokens) Keister. She was a 1944 graduate of Maquoketa High School. She married Donald Lee Babcock on February 22, 1947 in Maquoketa. To this union three children were born: Ronald, Michael and Kathy.
Elsie was a homemaker and farm wife who raised a family and farmed with her husband in the Maquoketa area for many years.
Elsie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa and the Maquoketa American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, serving as a past president.
Elsie enjoyed playing Euchre and going on frequent outings with her "Ladies Day Luncheon Club". She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Those left to honor Elsie's memory include her children, Ronald (Susan) Babcock of Monticello, IA, Michael (Julie) Babcock of Maquoketa, IA, and Kathy (Gary) Ihrig of Maquoketa, IA; a brother, Bill (Sharon) Keister of Monmouth, IA; a sister, Vera St. John of Calamus, IA; 8 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, and her husband Donald on November 25, 2005.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, an Elsie M. Babcock memorial fund has been established.
