On April 2, 2011, our community was shocked by the tragic loss of Brittany Ann Marie Greene, 17 year old daughter of Loretta (Randy) Hoogerhyde of Maquoketa Iowa and Jeffrey (Andrea) Greene of Dubuque Iowa due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Highway 64. The lives of her family and friends were forever changed in one second and her family is now facing life one step at a time as they heal from their grief.
The Hoogergyde & Greene families along with Maquoketa High school SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Jackson County TODD (Teens Opposed to Dangerous Decisions), and the Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC), are hosting a remembrance walk for Brittany.
This event is to RAISE AWARENESS about underage drinking, binge drinking, and drinking and driving…and the harmful affects…Did you know that a brain is not fully developed until the age of 25 so things you do can affect it.
We are also asking for any money donation and/or prize donations for our free raffle drawings…Donations can be made at Maquoketa State Bank.
Any help we can get to help us start up this awareness campaign is greatly appreciate, and any other proceeds will be donated to the Maquoketa SADD and Jackson County TODD so they can keep working on activities and/or marketing campaigns about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
